Built in Addis Ababa
Walia Motion Manufacturing PLC designs and builds bicycles in its own workshop in Akaki Kality, Addis Ababa, for a country of mountains.
Why we build here
Every frame is welded, fitted and quality-checked in our workshop, then assembled, adjusted and test-ridden before it leaves. There are no shipping containers and no import duties between the workshop and the rider.
Every component is available locally or through our supply partners, so a repair never waits weeks for a part. Every bike is built in 2 to 4 days.
Why "Walia"
The walia ibex (Capra walie) is found nowhere else on Earth. It lives in Ethiopia's Simien Mountains, on cliffs between about 2,500 and 4,500 metres, and moves along ledges that look impossible from the valley below.
It feeds on grasses, herbs and shrubs, and will rise on its hind legs to reach young shoots. The males carry heavy horns that sweep back in a long curve, the shape you see in our logo.
It is also rare: a few hundred remain, and in 2026 it was listed as critically endangered again. We took our name from an animal that belongs to these highlands and keeps climbing them. That is what we want from every bicycle we build, and why our line is Built to climb.
Our range
Our first model, the Nova, is an upright city and commuter bike with rack and mudguards, on sale now. A mountain bike, a cargo bike and an electric bike are coming soon.
